This month, we're shining a light on Alex, the facility manager at Osprey Storage Richmond. Over the past two years she's turned a once-troubled property into a thriving hub for the community!
From Residence Halls to Storage Units
Before joining the team, Alex built a career in management, overseeing the day-to-day operations of college residence halls. It turned out to be the perfect training ground.
"I had prior experience in management and overseeing the operational success of residence halls at college and wanted to continue working in a field in which those skills were transferrable," Alex explains. The parallels make sense: both jobs require juggling people, problem-solving on the fly, and keeping a property running like a well-oiled machine.
"The work is challenging and fun because there is never a dull moment, and I get to test myself regularly by being thrown into challenging and unfamiliar situations," Alex says. "It's a great opportunity to grow as a person."
A Team-First Culture
Ask Alex what keeps her at Osprey Storage, and the answer isn't about the job itself, it's about the people.
"It's a very welcoming and accommodating environment that cherishes its employees and treats us with the utmost care," Alex says. "The team-first mentality sets a golden standard for caring about each other as individuals as well as for us as a team."

Alex's proudest accomplishment speaks for itself: transforming the Richmond facility from a struggling asset into a genuine community space.
"I have flipped my property from a troubled asset to a thriving business and space for people within my community," Alex shares. "My tenants know that I care for them and that they can come to me with any issue, and I will always be happy to help!"
That tenant-first mindset is exactly the kind of leadership that makes an Osprey Storage facility feel less like a storage lot and more like a neighborhood you can count on.
Life Beyond the Office
Alex is a proud dog parent to two very different personalities. "Gypsy is an anxious pup with a ton of personality who loves to get attention and snuggle all day long," Alex says. "Heidi is a quiet pup who is a bit clumsy but filled with endless love. I cherish both of them so much, and they fill my life with love every day."
Originally from Middlesboro, Kentucky, Alex has made Richmond home for six years and has built a rich creative life outside of work. "I'm an artist and author on the side," Alex says, and that's putting it modestly. Alex is a seven-time published author and has exhibited artwork in several galleries over the years.

When asked for a piece of advice to share, Alex offered a perspective that's carried her through challenges both personal and professional:
"Crisis is just a cloud passing before the sun; with time we will see the light again."
